Force appoints Russ Foster as new assistant chief

russell_fosterA new chief officer has been appointed to join West Yorkshire Police.

Russ Foster, currently an assistant chief constable with Northamptonshire Police, is to join the West Yorkshire Police chief officer team.

ACC Foster currently has responsibility for specialist crime and territorial policing and has previously held portfolios for criminal justice and professional standards.

He began his career in Nottinghamshire Police and has previously served in Derbyshire Constabulary, as a chief superintendent, where he led corporate services, community safety and a force wide business change programme to meet the budget deficit brought about by the Comprehensive Spending Review.

Throughout his career, he has gained significant experience as an investigator having served in every rank from detective constable to detective superintendent. In Derbyshire he took the lead on serious and organised crime and during his time in Nottinghamshire Police, took the lead on a number of homicide enquiries.

ACC Foster will take up the post in the next few months, the force said.

Temporary Chief Constable Dee Collins said: “I and my chief officer colleagues are delighted to welcome Russ to the team. He joins us at a time of significant change and challenge, bringing with him skills and experience that will help carry the organisation forward.”

ACC Foster said: “I am delighted to be joining West Yorkshire Police and I don’t for one minute underestimate the challenge ahead in terms of bridging the budget deficit and striving towards delivering a world- class policing service to the people of West Yorkshire.

“I hope that I can bring my experience and passion for policing to bear in West Yorkshire Police and complement the chief officer team in delivering the aspirations of the Chief Constable and the Police and Crime Commissioner in making the communities we serve safer and for them to feel safer”.
